 2018 Course Descriptions:

Swim:

Sprint:

The swim will begin with a mass start from the beach. Athletes will swim north-west across the lake to go around the first buoy, then swim south to a second buoy, where they will then turn east and swim back towards the beach. The first loop is 500m. Athletes will then exit the water to go around the land buoy (on the beach) and head back into the water for a 2nd loop of 250m, totalling 750m. Athletes will then exit the water on the far south-east side of the lake to run on the sand, then grass, to enter transition.

Try-a-Tri:

Athletes will start on the south side beach of Lake Summerside. The swim will begin with a mass start from the beach. Athletes will swim south-west across the lake to go around the short-course buoy and back towards the beach. This loop is 250m. Athletes will then exit the water on the far south-east side of the lake to run on the sand, then grass, to enter transition.

Bike: (Stay Right Except to Pass)

Sprint/Duathlon Sprint:

To begin the bike, athletes will exit the grassy transition area and mount their bike on Summerside Grand Blvd, heading east. Athletes will make a quick right turn to head south on to 88th street. Cyclists will stay right (as per the usual rules of the road), and will make a left turn to head east again onto  Savaryn Drive. The direction of travel will change from east to south as Savaryn Dr. curves around a bend to head south. Athletes will continue on until they make a right hand turn at 25th avenue, heading west. Be aware that athletes must stay right as they travel on 25th avenue as the road splits with a meridian separating the direction of travels. At the split in this meridian, at the intersection of Orchards Gate/90th street and 25th avenue, that athletes will turn around the meridian and head back east on 25th avenue all the way back past Savaryn drive and continue to 66th st.  Turning around on 66th street, athletes head back and turn right at Savaryn drive. Athletes will continue back the way they came around the Savaryn drive bend until they turn right on to 88th street. Heading north on 88th street, athletes will continue just past Summerside Grand blvd where they will do a hairpin 180 degree turn on 88th street to head back south towards Summerside Grand blvd. It is here that athletes will have completed one lap of the bike course – a total of 6.67km. Sprint athletes will complete 3 laps before turning right on to Summerside Grand blvd (westbound) to head back into transition. To enter transition, athletes will cycle west, and around the meridian, where they will reach the dismount line and head back into transition.

Try-a-Tri:

As per the above description for sprint distance; however, try-a-tri athletes will complete only 2 laps of the bike course, for a total of 13.4km.

Run: (Note: The run is a stay-right course)

Sprint:

To begin the run, athletes will exit transition an head west, running around the turn-around circle at the end of Summerside Grand blvd. Finishing on the north side of the blvd, athletes will run east on the Summerside Grand blvd sidewalk towards 88th street. Athletes will cross 88th street before making a right hand turn on the road next to  the multi-use path on the east side of 88th street. Athletes will run south on the road before making a 180 degree turn at the end of the road running onto the path starting at Savaryn drive. Athletes will then run back along this path along 88th street, now heading north, until making a right hand turn on to Summerside Grande blvd (heading east). Athletes will then turn around at the break in the meridian and head back west on Summerside Grande blvd until making a right hand turn on to the multi-use path on 88th street. Athletes will run north until making a 180 degree turn at the end of the path  onto the road just before the intersection with Summerside Drive. Athletes will then run south on the road next to the path on 88th street until the intersection at Summerside Grande blvd. At this point the athletes have completed 1 lap. Sprint distance athletes will continue running straight through the intersection (along the path on 88th street) to complete a second lap. Once the second lap has been completed and the athlete is back at the intersection of 88th street and Summerside Grande blvd, athletes will turn right on to Summerside Grande blvd and run on the sidewalk, around the turn around circle (the reverse of the way they exited transition), and in to the finishing shoot, towards the finish line.
